“For My people are foolish,
They have not known Me.
They are silly children,
And they have no understanding.
They are wise to do evil,
But to do good they have no knowledge.” v.22
Read chapter 4
Imminent captivity is very near for Judah as we read this chapter with the king of Babylon and his army on their way to destroy Jerusalem. The alarm of war and destruction of their pains Jeremiah as He sees this vision from the Lord and declares this truth. Jehovah's answer to Jeremiah's question in verse 21 of how long starts here in verse 22. Their destruction is because of their folly. They didn't know or do what was for their own good in following the ways God set up for them. The had no understanding. They became experts at evil always finding ways to deceive, scheme, cheat, etc. They couldn't even grasp what it means to do good. It is the complete opposite of Romans 16:19, "...I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil."
Are you quick and wise to do evil or good? Wherever you may be ignorant, may you ask God to give understanding to ways of godliness.
