Read chapter 6
Can freedom really lead to bondage? It can and it does if that freedom is abused. Think about it, if someone is over 21 in the U.S they can drink legally, but if they drink every day multiple times a day just because they can they will become an alcoholic and be enslaved to alcohol. I once heard a saying:
"First the man take a drink,
than the drink takes a drink,
then the drink takes the man."
Or even food can become bondage, having the freedom to eat whatever if one doesnt use self control can turn into gluttony and bondage to food.Well this is what Paul is saying here: controlling desires so that desires don't control them. They had a false view of what freedom was. All things may be right for you to do but not all things are beneficial. How have you seen in your own life freedom become bondage? What are other examples you see often today that is okay to do but not beneficial?
