2 Peter 1

"And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;  knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." vv.19-21

Read chapter 1
Prophesy can be confusing today if we don't fully understand what prophesy is.  Unfortunately people have been deceived over hundreds and thousands of years when man has tried to prophesy words of God or interpret by mans own will.  If prophecy came “by the will of man,” then it might be interpreted according to man’s fancy. But it did not so come; consequently the interpretation must be sought elsewhere—viz., at the same source from which the prophecy itself proceeded. If the prophets spoke just as they pleased, they would be the best exponents of what they meant. But they spoke under divine influence, and therefore need not know the import of their own words. Prophecy must be explained by prophecy and by history, not by the individual prophet. (Elliott's Commentary)
How do you honor the Holy Scriptures?  Do you realize the magnitude of them?  Their power? Their perfectness?  It's because of the Holy Spirit and scripture that we have "all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue" v.3.
