Isaiah 1

"The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah." v.1

Read chapter 1.
There are 85 quotations or references from the book of Isaiah in the New Testament.  Isaiah prophesied for a long time, during the reigns of four kings, which based on references in scripture could be configured that he prophesied for 65 years (starting with the commencement of visions till his death).  During these years Hosea, Micah and Nahum also prophesied.  This book is based on Isaiah's visions concerning Judah and Jerusalem, not the "church" or the world.  "It's theme is the salvation of the nation boy Jehovah through judgement and grace, as being 'life from the dead'.  It addresses those who look for Messiah and those who wait for Him" (E.W. Bollinger, Companion Bible).  Isaiah had a wife and children and was present at the captivity by Babylon.  Jewish tradition states that Isaiah was killed by Hezekiah's son Manasseh who had become king.  Get excited as we jump into the book of Isaiah and get insight to what he experience and saw and the hope the Israelites held on to.
