1 Peter 5

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world." vv.8-9

Read chapter 5
If you were to see a lion all of the sudden you wouldn't say "be self-controlled, be watchful" all calmly, rather you'd say it as a quick cry for warning.  So too here in the Greek it's a single word and conveying immediate attention.  He's not just a lion but a roaring lion, denoting his hunger and determination. The devil walks among us; scary realization we don't think of every day.  We see in Job chapter one that Satan is roaming the earth seeking chances to cause men to turn away from the Lord "And the Lord said to Satan, 'From where do you come?' So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”'
We also need to remind ourselves when we're tempted or struggling that we're not alone, but that the same sufferings are experienced by our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Satan's not creative, he sticks with the same tricks to decieve on everyone.  So let's not be afraid to admit our sufferings but share and in turn have accountability with one another.
How have you seen the devil prowling around in your life?  How can you resist the devil and be steadfast in the faith with other believers against Satan?
