Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Judah, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they have despised the law of the Lord,
And have not kept His commandments.
Their lies lead them astray,
Lies which their fathers followed. v.4
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they have despised the law of the Lord,
And have not kept His commandments.
Their lies lead them astray,
Lies which their fathers followed. v.4
Read chapter 2
After reading God's judgment on the nations in chapter one, now we read God's judgement through Amos on God's chosen people, Judah and Israel. They are held at a different standard. They were more guilty for their sins than those of other nations for they had the light, they had the truth, they had God's direct words to them. They not only took for granted but abused their advantage they had of God's revelations to them. They had the law of the Lord, they knew what it was and they not only didn't keep it rather they despised it. They despised grace, truth, justice, mercy. The so deceived themselves by believe their own lies. Lies that had gone on for hundreds of years that no one knew what was the truth or the lie.
Do you have the word of God, the Bible? Do you know it? Do you believe it? Or do you despise it because you don't agree with some things God says? Have you ever been so caught up in a lie that you start believing it's true?
