but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down. v.1
Read chapter 14
We keep going back and forth reading about the wise woman and the foolish woman in Proverbs. We read of multiple examples and situations they are both in. I'm realizing with this that at any given moment I am either the foolish or the wise woman. Now for starters to all you feminists out there this chapter starts off by saying the wise woman builds her house- does that seem like God looks on woman as weak? I think not. Well this may not be talking literally about building a house but what makes up a house inside, and I'm not just talking about what decor she choose rather the people inside it or the people in her daily life. Now whether the people inside or around her house are her husband, children, parents, friends, etc, the wise woman "builds them up." She is encouraging and edifying to them to make them strong in spirit and soul. Yet we see the foolish woman tears her house down with her own hands, and the sad truth is that she may not realize she's even doing that. When a woman is passive-aggressive, cutting down or nagging her spouse, prideful, aggressive, always negative, etc, she is tearing others down. Nancy DeMoss Walgamoth describes the two woman like this:
"We women are like thermostats. We set the temperature. We control the climate in our homes in so many ways, sometimes without even saying a word." (Revive Our Hearts: Building Your Home)You may not be married with kids or even have your own house but you do have a community of people around you that you can either build up or tear down. What kind of "climate" do you set around you? Is it a harsh winter or peaceful autumn? Are you creating a climate people want to vacation to or vacation from?
