Nehemiah 8

And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law. v.9

Read chapter 8

I love this picture. The very words of God affected them so much it brought tears. Something they hadn't had for so long nor remembered how much life and truth it gave. These could have been a mixture of tears of joy, years of sadness (for how they disobeyed/rebelled), etc. But no matter what feelings were brought by hearing God's words being read titled to praise and worship the one and only true God.

The simple act that Ezra did by opening the book (8:5) is the same simple act we can do ourselves: OPEN THE BIBLE. Taste and see that the Lord is good. Yes it might not bring you to tears every time, but allow it to penetrate your soul. Just as there were people among them to help the people understand the words being read, so today we can find mentors and teachers to help us too when we have questions of what the scriptures say.
