Luke 19

"And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him, and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him." vv.47-48

Read chapter 19
I love how the end of this chapter portrays how much the people loved to hear Jesus and this is what caused fear in the rulers of the city.  This is near the end of Jesus' earthly ministry and we just saw the crowds of disciples (not just 12) laying down their clothes for him to come riding down on as they shouted praise to him.  Jesus taught daily in the temple and those that were in the temple were Jews.  The majority of the Jews didn't reject Jesus but the scribes, chief priests and other leaders were the ones that did.  Jesus was loved by the commoners and this is how a true leader is raised up than just schemes by the government of who they want in power.  So naturally this makes these leaders mad yet they can't deny the good and perfect words and works of Jesus.
Notice how this attentiveness to Jesus stopped the leaders evil scheming.  Otis Q. Sellers suggests that this attentive to here Him is literally that they hung on Him, meaning that they hung on every word, as we would say in our figure of speech. What would it look or affect would it have if the majority of believers were attentive to scripture, hanging on its every word?  How have you seen those that love and crave God's word create a fear or reverence for Jesus?
