Luke 22

"But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.  And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”  So Peter went out and wept bitterly." vv.60-62
Read chapter 22
At Peter's last denial of being with Jesus he's struck with the realization that He betrayed the Lord as Jesus told him he would.  Peter was so confident that he would never deny they Lord but when it came down to it during the darkest hour he did.  Whether it was trying to fit in or scared for his life he turned from his confidence in the Lord.  Jesus turned and looked at Peter precisely as this happened as He said it would.  Can you imagine what that felt like when the eyes of God look at you when you've betrayed Him?  It's got to be so much worse guilt feeling than when a teacher looks up and catches you cheating on a test or when you run in to your boss at a movie after you called in sick and all you get is "the look".  It's an immediate sense of guilt, yet so much more when we realize the betrayal of any of our actions to our Lord.  It was the hearing of a rooster crow that caused Peter to remember Christ's words.  Surely the sound of crowing roosters was common to hear all the time yet it took on a new realization for him now.  What things in your everyday life help you to remember the Lord's words, whether to keep you accountable or guide you?
