Isaiah 40

"To whom then will you liken God?
Or what likeness will you compare to Him?" v.18

Read chapter 40.
This chapter is so so good!  I had a hard time figuring out the one or few verses to pick out to write a short devo on as I thought of so many things with almost every verse.  Like verse three proves that Jesus is Jehovah, or verse twenty-two show the Lord knew the earth was a circle before man figured it out, or the well know verse thirty-one of soaring, running, walking with the Lord.  I chose to focus on verse eighteen  through twenty today in how people try to compare God.  Yes it's hard to grasp God.  What He looks like, what His personality is, what His purpose/will is, etc.  Many metaphors and similes are made that seem to help our minds somewhat understand the slightest bit, but even that can't compare.  There's the example of the trinity as H2O in the form of ice, water, vapor all the same yet in different form yet we don't learn His character or why He would chose to be each form.  The following verses continuing with likening God speaks of carving images from wood and choosing a skilled craftsman, yet those who are poor wouldn't be able to make such an image.  Also we know that people worship the image more than what the image represents.  How true do we see this today of people worshipping the cross more than what the cross represents?  I see people that don't live for Christ at all and not sure if they'd claim to be believers tattooing a cross on themselves or wearing a cross necklace for the image in our culture.  So how do you respond to the questions of verse 18?
