Isaiah 52

"Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently;
He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high.
14 Just as many were astonished at you,
So His visage was marred more than any man,
And His form more than the sons of men;
15 So shall He sprinkle many nations.
Kings shall shut their mouths at Him;
For what had not been told them they shall see,
And what they had not heard they shall consider."  vv. 13-15

Read chapter 52
Here we have one of many prophesies of Jesus' death hundreds of years before He was actually crucified.  These verses are a prelude to the next chapter that goes in to full detail describing the crucifixion.  The beatings and floggings before Jesus was lifted up on a cross was so brutal that his image was so disfigured.  The unexpected transformation startled and astonished many, His followers and Roman guards then, but also this visual has struck conviction in the most hardened unbelievers.   What do you visualize Christ looked like during the crucifixion?  How has His marred body struck conviction in you?
